Stuff 02:54
We got no time, we got no space, no human contact face-to-face We got no culture that we can hold - we’re all unfriended, unliked - but we’ve got… Stuff (Stuff!), we’ve got Stuff: logos, labels and leisure goods We got Stuff, loads of Stuff - and we can’t get enough of all that Stuff We got no soul, we got no heart, no good music and no real art We got no values, no common ground, no community - but we’ve got… Stuff (Stuff!), we’ve got Stuff: gigs and pixels and GPS We got Stuff (Stuff!), loads of Stuff - and we can’t get enough of all that Stuff We got no context, no sense of place, got no story that we can trace We got no future, we see no light, we’re blind and deaf and dumb – but we’ve got… Stuff (Stuff!), we’ve got Stuff: hits and memes and market share We got Stuff (Stuff!), loads of Stuff - and we can’t get enough of all that… Stuff (Stuff!), we’ve got stuff: reef-life wreathed in plastic wrap From our Stuff (Stuff!), loads of stuff - and we can’t get enough of all that stuff

And so the baby boomers may live out their natural time
We leave a poisoned atmosphere, but is that such a crime?
In looking after planet earth, I guess we’ve missed the bus
But what have future generations ever done for us? Despite the known effects we kept those gas emissions pumping
Our grandchildren will find a high-tech antidote, or something
Though people try to put us down, there’s nothing to discuss
’Cause what have future generations ever done for us? What have humankind’s descendants done for you and me?
Things are hotting up but hell, it’s just a few degrees Cars and electricity, we fossil-fired both
Doing nothing that would compromise our economic growth
When they see the state of nature, they may look back in disgust
But what have future generations ever done for us? We took a thriving wilderness and made a desert sand
For short term gain we squeezed the very life out of the land
Turned a teeming paradise into a bowl of dust
But what have future generations ever done for us? What have all your great grandchildren done for me and you?
The sea level is rising but it’s just an inch or two

You ran away and you left me stranded, I was heartbroken and abandoned
I went crazy and I couldn't stand it - what was I to do? Today I made up my mind to go somewhere far away so
I could try to forget about you - so I joined a crew I'm takin' a banana boat to Bolivia, to get away from you
After what you done to me I can't live here, I know I just got to go
I gave you all the love I had to give ya, but you didn't want to know
I'm takin' a banana boat to Bolivia, to get away from you I'll have to learn to speak the language - is it Portuguese or Spanish?
Either way I know I can manage what I have to do Forgetting about you will not be hard to do - I'm changing my attitude in every way I know that soon I will meet a pretty Bolivian senorita
And settle into la dolce vita, with somebody new I'm takin' a banana boat to Bolivia…

Once upon a hard time, a young man tried
To pick up the pieces from hopes that had died
I know that I hurt you, I wish it weren’t so
I’ve said and felt sorry for things I didn’t know
With love I am reaching out to you - a chance of rebuilding is in our view Time to forgive, just let it go, live and let live, let love grow
Time to move on, bury the past, make a new start - time to forgive at last We’re all only human, with follies and flaws
Through each crazy crisis we stumble and pause
We learn life by doing, we play things by ear -
The best and the fairest way not always clear But time heals all, we will find - if we face tomorrow with open mind
Time to forgive…
5.
roken windscreen, shattered glass, flashback memory from your past
And accidents happen, yeah accidents happen
Accidents happen every day - millions of lives are blown away South Sea of China and Vietnam; trouble with India and Pakistan
And accidents happen… Kim and rockets, near Japan; Yankees, Israel, old Iran
And accidents happen…

t was in Queensland, before we wed
Baby wore blue jeans and we were in the red
I was pondering dumb things I learned inside
When she came up with something - payday certified
My little three-wheeler said she’d found a way to make some cash
She’ll hit on her dealer and I’ll go in and steal his stash  But I said: You’ve got to draw the line somewhere
Even when you’re half dead, you’ve got to know where to stop  Flat broke and busking, just Dennis and me
Singing songs for the asking down at Circular Quay
Approached by a mobster, he was from Hong Kong
Said I’ll give you a lobster if you’ll sing my favourite song
Sir, I don’t like to warn ya, but I’d rather die
Than sing Hotel California or American Pie  So I said: You’ve got to draw the line somewhere
Even when you’re half dead, you’ve got to know where to stop
Then they said: You’ve got to draw the line somewhere
You gotta sing like an Angel, but don’t go over the top (No way!) Chasing a payday, trying to earn an honest bob
But the work don’t pay, I can’t do a straight job
When that’s how it goes, it’s time to see the boss
He was with his associates up at the Cross
He said I need a lieutenant and here’s the deal:
Collecting rent from a tenant with a late night clientele But I said: You’ve got to draw the line somewhere
Even if you’re half dead, you’ve got to know where to stop
And he said: You’ve got to draw the line somewhere
Gotta know who your friends are, and know who gets the chop Gotta draw the line somewhere…

Well I haven’t been doing much dancing, just got out of the slot
Two months in Malabar mansion and looking to play a straight shot
Gets harder to make easy money, takes longer to make a fast quid
These days nobody falls for those comic book ads like they used to when I was a kid Get rich quick, amaze your friends, kick sand in the face of the rest
X-ray specs, send no cash, mail the coupon and start your life afresh Well the boss has left me here holding the bag, I’m thinking of bagging the lot
I’ll just say it was won on some no-hoper nag at long odds, whose name I’ve forgot
Those fences and bookies all drive a hard deal, they’ll tell you that nothing’s for free
It seems like the whole of the city knows what’s going on except me Get rich quick… The six o’clock swill still happens round here, though no one partakes except me
Out on the pimp walk they’re peeling the peach, where I used to jive with Marie
The writing on the footpath was washed away with the rain
It seemed like an eternity was going down the drain Get rich quick… I slept through a whole double feature at Matraville drive-in last night
I followed myself back to old Chinatown and that’s where I woke up in fright
Six foot down facing the sky - no wallet, no memory, no key
I thought I was chasing the dragon but the dragon was chasing me Tonight I’ll go down to the Stadium, got a taste for them rhythm and blues
Cigarettes, whisky or women - I’m finding it harder to choose
Those milk bar bodgies and good sorts, they dance the Sugarfoot Strut
You can do things with eyes wide open when the devil’s eyes are shut, I’m gonna… Get rich quick, amaze my friends, kick sand all over the rest
X ray specs, send no cash, mail the coupon and start my life afresh

I don’t know much about love, I never knew what it was
As a kid in the suburbs, I heard it spoken of
I used to hear it in songs and I used to hear it in church
But I never knew why everybody talked about it so much It seemed to me the world was really mean
Between the teachers and the bullies and my old man competing to beat the living shit out of me
But I kept my head down and I survived somehow
And the world is not quite so frightening for me now I don’t know much about love, there’s a lot to know
I keep making mistakes but I keep learning more as I go
I’m working hard on forgiveness, like everyone else
I’m learning to forgive them and to forgive myself I don’t know much about love, but I do what I can
To share the benefits of good fortune with my friends
If I see them hungry, I’ll invite them in
Set another place at the table and make a little more for them I don’t know much about love and maybe nobody does
Just when you think you understand it, it blows up in your hand and you lose it all again because
It’s not something that belongs to us, that we can lock in a box
It’s a gift and it’s a duty - and if you don’t use it, it just rots

The Outbreak 04:33
They’re closing down the airports, they’re boarding up the malls
All the cafes, bars and restaurants, see the writing on their walls
They’re cracking down on meetings, and social distance crime
While the dole queues and the hospitals, are working overtime
We consign all human contact to the phone
It’s a futuristic nightmare, where you wake up all alone Here comes the outbreak – it’s here to spoil our day
Here comes the outbreak – hell-bent to make us pay
Just keep your distance, or it will carry us away
As we cough into our sleeves and dance around what’s going down It’s an outbreak of elbow bumps, and lame embarrassed smiles
It’s an outbreak of violence in the supermarket aisles
It’s an outbreak of platitudes, and silly “Keep Calm” signs
Of rabbits in the headlights, with small suspicious minds
Every leader striking poses, can’t reconcile it
They’re all trying to look like Moses, but they wash their hands like Pilate Here comes the outbreak … Now the crisis is dying down, it hasn’t changed a thing
Stock markets, wet markets, are back into their swing
Now the air is thick with stories of how we won the war
While we know it’s true we lost a few, hell, they were just old or poor
Back to business as usual in this town
Because out of sight is out of mind, till the next one comes around Another outbreak will come and spoil our day
Another outbreak – hell-bent to make us pay
Just keep your distance, and we’ll we react the same old way
We’ll just cough into our sleeves and dance around what’s going down

In the winter of ’92, there was me and you
Not a lot of places to go, not a lot to do
You wanted to go away, and we knew I had to stay
There was nothing left between me and you But late at night I can hear you call - come out here
I know I gotta keep myself between these walls, this time of year
Your voice keeps echoing down the hall - come out here
I know I have to keep myself between these walls, this time of year

Redneck TV 03:14
don't watch them fancy foreign movies, or smart-ass commie-tators on the ABC
Don’t go for deep-down-document’ries - that kinda thing just ain’t for me… Hey hey hey! I like to watch them dudes chase alligators, or picking junk down by the boundary fence
Don’t listen to egghead masturbators - but the guy on Sky TV he makes some sense… Hey hey hey! Redneck TV - don't need no Netflix, don’t want no Stan
Redneck TV - don't need no thinkin’ to be an angry man
Redneck TV - I like the straight-up pictures, I like the simple sound
Redneck TV - cut through the bullshit, boots on the ground

I think I’m gonna start a blog, and post some videos
And lift the veil on a lot o’ stuff, I’m sure nobody knows
I’ll be a hero, say what must be said
‘Cause I got these conspiracies, messin’ with my head Lee Oswald was a Patsy, in the shootin’ of JFK
It was the Cubans, the FBI, KGB and CIA
A bloody coup, a power grab, a plot to seize control
All masterminded by a drug lord, they called him Grassy Noel Conspiracy, runs the world today
The Russians and the Chinese, are stealin’ our lives away
The IPCC, the Who-HO, the UN and the U-NESCO
Conspiracy, runs the world today You take ol’ Elvis Presley, he was much too young to die
He ducked out to work undercover, for his friends in the FBI
But Paul McCartney did die young, a car crash claimed his life
Replaced by a shape-shiftin’ lizard, who fooled his fans and wife (Oh yeah!) Conspiracy, messin’ with your head
‘Cause everyone you thought was dead is alive, and everybody else is dead
You can’t believe your own two eyes, better dead than fed their lies
Conspiracy, messin’ with your head Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were posed on a big green screen
And 9/11 was one big hoax, the biggest we’ve ever seen
And the Holocaust never happened, it was all just fake news
Rigged by the Illuminati… or let’s just blame the Jews! Conspiracy, believe it or not
That global warming and climate change are one big UN plot
Pandemics, vaccinations – they’re Q-Anon for a shot
Conspiracy, believe it or not
It’s a Conspiracy
It’s a Russian… Chinese… Jewish… Muslim… UN… leftie… spooky… greenie…
‘luminati plot! (And if you think this is a song… it’s not!)

Next Time 02:56
If I could live my life again, knowing now what I knew not then
I’d be twice as wise as three wise men - but there ain’t gonna be a next time I’d come back and be someone else, a real rule breaker who jumps and yells
Lifts the roof and raises hell - but there ain’t gonna be a next time Next time round, I’ll know what to do, dig the score from last time through
On a never-ending déjà vu - but there ain’t gonna be a next time In this life I didn’t take my chance to make the best of circumstance
Or grab the good stuff that I found - I’ll be much smarter next time round Some time soon when it’s time to go, I’ll take a ride on the next bardo
Feel the bliss in the afterglow - but there ain’t gonna be a next time This time round I didn’t have the nerve to speak my mind and declare my love
My tongue was tied and my heart was bound - I’ll be much bolder next time round Next time round I’m gonna fill my cup, find a card game to disrupt
Ante in and double up - but there ain’t gonna be a next time The next time round in the cosmic deal, I’ll jump a level on the karmic wheel
Pray the Lord my soul to heal - but there ain’t gonna be a next time - oh no no no no no!

Baggage 04:30
She's got the Venus de Milo smile, she's got the beauty, brains and style
She would be perfect in every respect - a total goddess, except for the fact... She's got Baggage, a ton of Baggage
She's got more Baggage than the Moscow Circus on tour He's got the biceps, he's got the pecs - he's a machine that was built for sex
And he's intelligent, he's sharp as a tack - but what's on his mind, down the back? He's got Baggage, excess Baggage
He's got more Baggage than the army when they're going to war Something got passed on from grandfather, to father to son
He's got a complicated mind like a maze
You could get lost in there for days and days and days By week three you start to see about a million idiosyncrasies
But curiosity drives you on - and then you find you've got the job of carrying... Baggage, somebody's Baggage - you've got the job but you didn't really volunteer...
To carry Baggage, somebody's Baggage
They've got more Baggage than a supermodel takes all year And it goes back to when she was three, sitting on Granddad's knee
Now it's you who's in the frame - it's not logical but you're to blame Is it a wedding or a wrestling ring? Is it a prison or a beautiful thing?
Before you start to think about marrying anyone, make sure they're not carrying Baggage, too much of Baggage
Remember, Excess Baggage carries a fee
Baggage, too much of Baggage
Too much of Baggage is no fun, take it from me

The heart of my country is big and red
It beats in the lives our First Peoples have led
It grows in our cities, where great dreams are fed
And offers in equal part the warmth of my country’s heart The heart of my country is wise and bold
It sees through the tinsel to find real gold
It hears every story, the young and the old
No blueprint or map could chart the breadth of my country’s heart We’ll nourish our children, clean water and air
Wherever there’s hardship, our help will be there
We’ll fight for our freedoms, stand up for our rights
Ensuring a fair go for all - come rise to my country’s call! The heart of my country is open wide (open so wide)
It welcomes the stranger to come inside
(In our hearts, so) Diverse and united, together we’ll ride
No bigot can tear apart the strength of my country’s heart
(Hand in hand from the start, feel) The strength of my country’s heart!

about

Five veteran musical adventurers find themselves locked down in their own backyard in 2020-21 with their Baggage & Stuff. This album is the result: the first recorded collaboration between Sydney-based groups Men With Day Jobs and Aubrey & Purton.
The songs are about the stuff we buy, the baggage we carry, the places we pack our bags for, the items we depend on… and the things that matter, or seem to - things we hold dear, or just hold onto.

Baggage & Stuff are Dennis Aubrey, Kim Constable, Rod Crundwell, Pete Purton and Stafford Sanders. Also featuring Mark Lord on sax and flute.
