I don’t know much about love, I never knew what it was As a kid in the suburbs, I heard it spoken of I used to hear it in songs and I used to hear it in church But I never knew why everybody talked about it so much
It seemed to me the world was really mean Between the teachers and the bullies and my old man competing to beat the living shit out of me But I kept my head down and I survived somehow And the world is not quite so frightening for me now
I don’t know much about love, there’s a lot to know I keep making mistakes but I keep learning more as I go I’m working hard on forgiveness, like everyone else I’m learning to forgive them and to forgive myself
I don’t know much about love, but I do what I can To share the benefits of good fortune with my friends If I see them hungry, I’ll invite them in Set another place at the table and make a little more for them
I don’t know much about love and maybe nobody does Just when you think you understand it, it blows up in your hand and you lose it all again because It’s not something that belongs to us, that we can lock in a box It’s a gift and it’s a duty - and if you don’t use it, it just rots
